Lazy Days

Today was indeed a lazy day. Very lazy. Once again, we slept in till around 9:30ish (really only 7:30 back home) but today we did not have anywhere to rush out to, just, hopefully, our private cabana. While the beach has plenty of chairs the private cabana is fully shaded and provides a large beach bed to lay on as well as lounge chairs, a bottle of champagne, and amazing service. I wanted to try Blaze for breakfast so we hustled to get ready and get there before they closed. Breakfast at Blaze was pretty good; tea, green juice, crepes, a breakfast burrito. I loved that my egg breakfast burrito was actually made with real eggs (not that fake pour egg crap that a lot of hotels and cheap restaurants use) and not greasy.

Yesterday we had talked about working out this morning and we agreed that we should follow through. It was around 11ish and we had our cabana rented until 5pm so we had plenty of time to get there. We decided to stop at the Activities Desk on our way to change and inquired about fishing, as we had seen two fishing boats anchored just off shore. And what do you know, the hotel guy led us down the beach to fishing charter folks that they allowed on the resort just for folks like us. We spoke with the captain and all his hustlers trying to close the deal. They didn’t realize that with Brandon being a captain himself and professional fishing guide (he owns a charter fishing company) that he could not be bull shitted. We have activities planned the next two days but have time Wednesday morning before we leave to fit in a trip. Brandon obviously has a great interest in the fishing and I’m excited to get to share in one of his passions. We negotiated the price down for a half-day trip on Wednesday and said we’d come back after our workout. We wanted to talk amongst ourselves and read their reviews.

There was nobody but us in the workout room and though they didn’t have all the equipment I would have liked it was functional. The ocean view is a nice touch 🙂 It felt great to work out and makes me anxious to get back on track with a regular fitness routine when we get home. With our lives having been less than regular routine the last couple months my fitness routine has suffered and needs to be put back on track.

Post workout we went back to the hustlers on the beach and booked our fishing trip for Wednesday morning. The dudes kept us talking for a while and we needed protein, we didn’t have time to stand around and bullshit forever. Plus it was hot and there was a cabana waiting for us. The buffet wasn’t opening back up for another ten minutes so we decided to grab burger patties from a poolside cart and retreat to our cabana.

What a shit show that was. The guy working the cart obviously hated his life. He refused to acknowledge anyone and let burger after burger burn to a char. They also kept running out of everything and it took them about 25 minutes to refresh the chips and guacamole, which were already empty when we got there. We took our meals to our cabana and ate our charred hard burger patties while eyeing our bottle of champagne and the peace around us.

We spent our afternoon in leisure. When we got too hot we would go take a dip in the ocean. The waves were strong and we both got tossed around and flipped around underwater pretty good a couple times while we tried to brave them as they crashed to shore. Here I was trying to keep the saltwater out of my hair today and there I was, completely underwater. When we were done playing in the water we laid around our cabana, drinking cocktails and talking. It was pretty awesome. I could do another day like that and be quite happy. It almost made me wish we didn’t have stuff booked every day the rest of the trip so we could just enjoy the resort more. But I also know that we will be back.

We eventually moved from the cabana and ocean to the adult pool and I love how warm the water is. The pool water is probably about 90 degrees. Just perfect if you ask me! We hung over the edge of the infinity pool and agreed on the Mexican restaurant for dinner tonight.

Dinner was had at a respectable time this evening. One because I really don’t like to eat too late and two because of the 8pm baby turtle release that was scheduled. I got super excited when I saw that listed on an activities board earlier today, I want to see baby turtles! Dinner was lackluster. We had salads, ceviche, Mahi mahi, and pork. It was just ok. Funny that so far the food they do worst here is Mexican. Even the service there wasn’t up to par.

We walked down to the beach with 5 minutes to spare waiting for the turtle release people. Where were they? We waited but nobody came. There was a large group of people at the far end of the beach and we finally deduced that the release must be happening over there. We hoofed it across the beach and made it just in time as the lady started to grab baby turtles out of a bucket one at a time and set them into the sand to begin their journey into the sea. We missed the whole talk but saw the actual release which is what matters. They asked that people keep a distance away but the lady doing the release was kind enough to come get people’s cameras and take pictures of the baby turtles for them since nobody could get too close. One little turtle was having a hard go of getting to the water. He moved slower than the rest and hung back. Even when a wave pulled him out it then spit him back onto the shore. We watched baby turtles get tossed like little pinwheels in the waves.

Brandon had a margarita at dinner and was dying with heat from the tequila. The poor man was melting and yet it was super pleasant out so we decided to change back into swim gear and take an evening dip in the pool. We watched the sun finish setting from a pool as thunder clouds started to roll closer before we retreated back to our room for the night.

The weather is crazy right now. Super loud thunder is cracking so close it feels like it’s bouncing off the building. Lightning keeps overpowering the dark sky and flashing white, making it brighter out than the daylight. There is monsoon-like rain pouring. From our room we can see flooding on the grounds below. I love a good thunder storm.

Tomorrow we have our outdoor adventure with zip lining and all sorts of other randomness. Hoping I can actually get some good sleep tonight…
